ROI Radio Update

Hello Feedburners, as you have noticed, ROI Radio has been on a little bit of a hiatus lately. In fact, it has been two months since the last episode was published. However, I would like to officially announce that ROI Radio is about to return, and will be better than ever. So stay subscribed and I promise there will be lots of good stuff coming soon.

Recently, most of my time and attention around producing new media has been spent experimenting a lot with video on my personal blog, The Trend Junkie.

I have been feeling guilty for not sending anything out over this feed in a while, so while we get ROI Radio ramped back up over the next couple of weeks, feel free to check out some of the videos that I have put up over the past couple of months. Episodes of what I dub as "trend tv" are below, with the most recent at the top:

trend tv: Lee Gibbons, CEO, Podango

trend tv: Tim Street, French Maid TV

trend tv: Doug Kaye, Conversations Network

ROI Radio: The Business Podcasting Book

I am actually the "guest" on this episode of ROI Radio / Capture the Conversation. The episode features a discussion that I had with Kris Smith at Gnomedex in Seattle earlier this month. Kris is interviewing me for his Capture the Conversation podcast, a production of Room 214 with his permission to also send the recording out via the ROI Radio feed as well. At Gnomedex, I announced my upcoming book, Podcast Academy: The Business Podcasting Book, which is being released next month, Sept 27th at, where else, the Podcast Academy 6 in Ontario, CA. We cover the various aspects of the book , the story behind it, and what folks can look forward to when the book is out.

You can check it out and pre-order now if you are interested on Amazon.com.

ROI Radio: Hollis Thomases, Web Ad.vantage

This episode of ROI Radio features a discussion with Hollis Thomases, of Web Ad.vantage. This is the first ROI Radio we have recorded in a while since its taken a little while to set up our new studio in the new office. Thanks for being patient!

Hollis’ company is located here in Maryland so she joined me in studio which marks only the 3rd show that featured a guest in the house. Listen in as Hollis and I having a very laid back conversation about the changing online landscape, social media, information overload, and our recent local adventure at the edu Web Conference.

UPDATE: My apologies for anyone who received the Rick Klau interview on this post, there was one place I forgot to replace the correct URL of the MP3. Your feedreader may have picked that one up as the podcast in error. This has been corrected! Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience.

ROI Radio: Rick Klau, Feedburner

This episode of ROI Radio features a discussion with Rick Klau, who at the time of recording was the VP, Publisher Services of Feedburner, and is now part of the content acquisition team at Google. Feedburner as many of you know is an RSS management provider who was just acquired by Google. This podcast was recorded before the acquisition was announced.

In this episode Rick and I talk about the massive growth of RSS adoption, and the role that Feedburner plays in the space. We discuss in detail the metrics around RSS and how Feedburner calculates them. Rick goes into great detail explaining the metrics around subscribers, clicks, downloads, audience reach and site stats. All great information that any publisher would want to know.

Rick is then asked the “whats next?” question as it relates to RSS. Check out this episode for an insightful analysis of Feedburner, RSS and the future of where syndicated content is going.

ROI Radio: Tim Bourquin, TNC New Media

This episode of ROI Radio features a discussion with Tim Bourquin, the CEO & Founder of TNC New Media, whose events include the popular Podcast & New Media Expo this Fall, September 28-30th in Ontario, CA.

In this episode I talk to Tim about the state of the tradeshow industry and his thoughts around “virtual” trade shows. We also discuss the online components that Tim brings to his sponsorship packages, and the growth of the Podcast and New Media Expo which is heading into its 3rd year this September.

We also discuss the story of Tim’s recent sale of Endurance Planet, one of the first podcast’s to ever attract a sponsor to US Triathlon. This particular deal proves once again the power of niche content.

We also discuss what kinds of deals Tim has been seeing in terms of podcast sponsorship. He talks to us about how he started and developed his own sponsorship models, and how we are still in the wild west of an emerging market!

As a conference organizer, Tim also gives us his thoughts on the “unconference.” We discuss the value of both the “conference” and the “unconference.” Good stuff.

ROI Radio: Harry Gold, Overdrive Interactive

This episode of ROI Radio features an interview with Harry Gold, the Managing Director of Overdrive Interactive, whose clients include, Harley Davidson, John Hancock, LoJack, Boston Globe among many others.

In this episode I cut to the chase with Harry and ask him his opinion on “whats next?” and what he considers to be “bleeding edge” in online media and marketing.

Harry believes that the future of online media is in how we will go about optimizing our online media campaigns, and more importantly how we share the data across the different channels. The various “silos of optimization” that are currently being done within each individual online media are going to vanish, and the new trend will be sharing the data between the effectiveness of each media, and translating what key metrics online can also drive offline. Interesting stuff for sure. Check it out.

Shotgun ROI Radio: Kris Smith, Room214

This shotgun episode of ROI Radio features a brief chat with Kris Smith, the Vice President of New Media for Room 214, founder of Palegroove Studios & producer of the popular Croncast.

Kris was a player as I decided to do some “off the cuff” podcasting while Andy and I were in the studio. I pinged Kris on Skype and said “got a few minutes to chat?” With that Kris was dialed into the studio and the question simply was “Whats next?” Kris talks about his thoughts around “moderated RSS” and a consumer facing RSS preference center, as well as Apple TV.

ROI Radio: Michael Geoghegan, Gigavox Media

This weeks episode features a conversation with Michael Geoghegan, the President & Co-founder of Gigavox Media, a podcasting technology company, and producers of the soon to be released Gigavox Audio Lite, and the Levelator. Gigavox also produces three successful podcast media channels, IT Conversations, Open Source Conversations and Podcast Academy.

Michael and I have a conversation around the history of IT Conversations and Gigavox Media’s upcoming release of Gigavox Audio Lite, a powerful new podcasting workflow application. We discuss the production advantages of using Gigavox Audio Lite, and drill into the advertising / sponsorship module which is VERY impressive. As I call it in the show several times, this is the “uber ad server” for podcast publishers. I also ask Michael to talk about the types of deals he is seeing in terms of podcast sponsorship and advertising. Lots of good stuff to listen to.

Finally, we talk about the new upcoming Podcast Academy book series that I am participating in writing. Michael and I talk about the book, and the void that it fills in the marketplace as far as a book that is focused on explaining to the CEO, CMO, Marketing Manager, Ad Exec, VP of Marketing, all the way down to the small business owner, how podcasting can have an impact and extend their marketing and communications outreach. Check it out.

ROI Radio: Tim Barton, Blue Sky Factory, Inc

This weeks episode features a conversation with our very own Tim Barton, VP of Business Development for Blue Sky Factory, a communications service provider based in Baltimore, MD. Tim runs our Boston office, but travels down to Baltimore on a regular basis. Last week we had the chance to sit down and have a conversation about thoughts on lead generation, and follow up communications. It was refreshing to have someone in the studio, versus the phone, this time around. Nice change of pace.

Tim and I talk about our experiences at Blue Sky Factory, Inc in regards to nurturing leads, and staying in contact with targeted and relevant information. We also discuss how organizations can revamp older leads and contacts re-spark an interest in your product, service or brand, opening the door to build a new dialouge.

Tim is a pioneer in sales and business development and we are fortunate to have him with us at Blue Sky Factory. Listen in and let us know what you think. (NOTE: Sorry no head shot for this episode).
